Dubbed as "Health sounds for the soul"Green Tea
Musik's Ricky Shabazz and Khalid Salaam started from the
humble roots of two like minded masters of ceremony. A two-headed
entity materialized based on their mutual respect for one another’s
lyrical ability. A family-orientated friendship ensued along with
an enduring vision of greatness. The heavens saw fit to bless
one of the members of this new union with the gift of being a producer
as well as an emcee. Moving as a self contained all-in-one organism,
learning the production side of this healthy progression came naturally
to the originally non-producing member. This growth was not only
welcomed, but made their union even stronger and placed them in
a position to not have to leave their gate in order to bring a soundtrack
to their living vocabulary. Fast forward to over a decade later
and they are still aiming for the soul with each project that they
touch. They’ve solely produced each of their group projects
collectively picking from their vast catalog of tracks. They’ve
had 5 releases under the moniker PRODUX starting
with Tapdance Renaissance, Black Faces, 70’s Baby, Carrot
Cake, and the newly released, highly anticipated Aim for
the Soul. Production is always credited under the trademarked
Green Tea Musik.
They’ve quietly maneuvered throughout the Atlanta hip hop
scene sprinkling their brand of seasoning here and there on projects
like “The Unveiling” by Invizzbl Men, “Solid Infrastructure”
by Mighty Network, “Smoking Work” by JamPoet, “Done
Deal” by Done Deal, and “80s Baby” by Provy tha
Boss. Green Tea has also been a long time collaborator with AL/NY/TX
artist OneSon producing various tracks on each of his releases “Poor
Man’s Testimony,” “Bama to Baghdad,” “Microwave
Age,” and the upcoming “Canvas!” Although hip
hop is the main blood vein of their musical existence, it isn’t
their only stamp or contribution to their underground scoring. The
film community has also taken notice as they’ve contributed
heavily to the score of the independent produced documentary “Beatmakers”
and the Lion’s Gate film based on the documentary called “Step
Off” both of which were directed by LaRon Austin. They’ve
been instrumental in the neo-soul community and the contemporary
gospel scene as well. “Instrumental” is really an understatement
when given some thought, because they play drums, keys, guitar,
and several other instruments collectively in addition to sampling.
They’ve produced full length projects for singers Fenner Eaddy,
Aaqui, and several songs for Industry heavyweight Dandro and his
album “Kingdom Swagger,” as well as newcomers Cressida,
Ms AJ, X-Factor contestant Athena Renee, and Lando The Singer.
The main objective of their music is to not only to make something
“DOPE,” but to offer music that is tailor made and fits
each of them as artists. Being artists themselves has assisted in
their empathy towards other artists and their need to express their
thoughts to the appropriate sonic background. If you are unfamiliar
with their body work google “Green Tea Musik,” see what
pops up, you may be surprised by what you hear. “Be Healthy!”
